- As an experienced music educator, I have four decades of music education and professional experience.
- My classical performance and training is extensive, having trained and performed as a soloist as well as in chamber music and as an orchestral musician.
- I live and breathe jazz. My teaching of jazz styles is based on developing improvisation skills emphasizing melodic construction, harmony, style analysis, solo transcription, singing, and rhythmic development.
- The primary means of teaching musical fundamentals consists of:
- • tone production including work on embouchure development, breathing, reeds, mouthpiece and equipment understanding
- • technique development
- • ear training
- • rhythm reading (sight reading and rhythmic analysis)
- • harmony (theory and analysis)
- • melody (intervals and phrasing)
- My students excel in school bands, college auditions, amateur and community bands, and professional ensembles. Many of my students have developed exciting musical careers.
My teaching philosophy focuses on nurturing a love for music and helping students develop their skills and potential on their chosen woodwind instrument. I believe that everyone has the ability to learn and grow as a musician, regardless of their previous experience and age. With my extensive knowledge and expertise, I tailor my lessons to meet the individual needs and goals of each student. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced player, I will provide you with a supportive and enriching environment.
